GENERAL INFORMATION

The staff of The Allergy and Asthma Treatment Center is very happy to welcome you to our practice.
We believe that a good doctor and staff-patient relationship is based on mutual respect and understanding.  Our desire is to provide you with the finest possible allergy and asthma care.  We will try to provide you our services in a friendly, efficient and economical manner.  Any suggestions you may have to improve our services are welcome.

YOUR INITIAL VISIT

The purpose of your first visit is to provide us with a detailed history, physical examination and skin tests to establish whether allergy treatment is indicated.  We will discuss the mechanics of an allergy evaluation and outline a course of action.  If possible, bring a list of all your current medications.

SKIN TESTS

These can be accomplished in one visit, though occasionally more than one visit is required. Two types of skin tests are performed: prick and intradermal tests that are applied onto the skin of the back and/or the forearm.  The number of these tests varies from individual to individual. The tests are read 15 to 20 minutes after their application.

ALLERGY SHOTS

If it is necessary for you to take allergy shots, we will outline your program and initiate this therapy. The usual routine is one shot per week for 6 months or 2 shots per week for 3 months to allow rapid build-up of your immunity against the inhaled allergens. Thereafter, the shot interval is changed to every two, three or four weeks depending on your response to the treatment. The length of this program may vary, but you should anticipate a three to five year program.

TELEPHONE CALLS

If you have any questions regarding your condition, medication or treatment, feel free to call. Our medical staff is trained to answer most of your questions. However, if you would like to speak to Dr. Sanyurah, please say so and he will return your call. Urgent calls will be returned as soon as possible. For routine matters, calls made in the morning will be returned at noon; afternoon calls will be returned between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. If you run out of medications, please call us during regular office hours and leave the name of your medication and your pharmacy phone number. Ladies should indicate if they are pregnant or nursing.

BILLING AND INSURANCE

Our office is currently enrolled in most of the insurance plans.  A number of these plans require a referral from your primary care physician.  You can obtain this information by calling your insurance carrier.  At the end of each visit you will receive a statement of the rendered medical services. We will forward your claim to your primary insurance carrier. However, please remember that your health insurance policy is a contract between you and your health insurance carrier. We request that you begin payment on your account when you receive your statement. Unpaid balances are billed monthly.  Should you find any errors in your bill, please notify our office immediately.

APPOINTMENTS

Scheduled and occasional sick visits will be necessary.  Please call our office for an appointment.  If you have an emergency we will do whatever is necessary to care for your problem.  We will make every effort to keep your appointment time.  However, unexpected occurrences may cause us to run behind schedule.  We do respect your time and regret delays.  If we do encounter delays, we will inform you and give you the opportunity to reschedule.

CANCELING APPOINTMENTS

If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please notify the office as far in advance as possible so that we may use this time for another patient.
